Summer is almost here, isn't it beautiful? This month’s blog post will be a bit shorter, as there isn’t much new to report right now. Even so, I am having an amazing time here and continuing to enjoy every moment. Let’s get into it!
Sales & Store Hours Update
As most of you know, we recently changed our Saturday store hours. We are now open from 10:00am to 4:00pm, and we will accept donations from 10:00am to 3:00pm. I want to sincerely thank everyone who volunteered for the new 10:00am-12:00pm shift. Several people have shared that this time works much better for them, and I’m so glad. I’m looking forward to seeing how these new hours continue to benefit both our staff and our customers, as well as positively impact sales. Speaking of sales- in April, the thrift store brought in $90,654, a 6% increase from last year! I am incredibly excited and proud of what we’ve accomplished together. We are now 94% of the way toward our annual sales goal of $1,000,000, and I truly believe we can do this. Every one of us plays an important role in that success. Whether greeting customers on the sales floor, checking them out at the register, sorting and pricing merchandise, or accepting donations, every interaction contributes to the customer's experience and happiness. Thank you all for your hard work!
Cross Training
Have you ever thought about learning a new department? If so, we’d love your help! Our Craft Department is looking for another team member. If you enjoy fabrics, quilting, or any kind of arts and crafts, this could be a great opportunity to learn something new while supporting a fun and creative area of the store.
We’re also looking for help at the Electronics Desk. It’s a unique area where you never know what kinds of electronic treasures will come in. Each piece needs to be tested and inspected before it reaches the sales floor. If you’re interested in learning more about Electronics, please reach out to Susan or me, we’d be happy to get you trained and comfortable here!
The New Guy
We’d like to welcome Joey, our new Donation Intake Coordinator! He’s been with us for about a month and has already become a great addition to our team. Currently in college studying engineering, he has quickly learned the donation process here and has shown himself to be flexible and willing to jump in where needed. We’re glad to have him on the team- please say hello when you see him!
Kudos Corner
We're going to recognize one of our shop volunteers this month- Elizabeth Moon. She usually works in the back in the ever-busy apparel area, where she has helped make it possible to provide clothing and shoes to individuals supported by Volunteers of America. When our customers requested the return of the lingerie section, Elizabeth took the initiative to start collecting quality items for the department, playing an important role in its revival. She is also a valued member of the Human Resources team, assisting with protocol and supporting the hiring process for our small group of employees.
Thank you, Elizabeth, for your dedication and teamwork.
POST SCRIPT Inventory is less than a month away, and we’re right on track! I’ll be sending guidance to the Leads and other relevant team members over the next few weeks so we can all be prepared.
