I skipped one month of Shop Talk, and it feels like forever since I’ve caught up with you all! Lots has happened since April…we’re officially Uplift Thrift (yay!), inventory for the shop is done and went really well, we made $972,621 this fiscal year, and we have a new Thrift Shop Chair, Stephanie Hatton-Ward!
Before introducing Steff, I’d like to say thank you to Susan Erickson who stood by my side as the Thrift Chair this past year. She did a wonderful job and I’m incredibly grateful for her support.
Now, here is a word from the Queen of Linens, and your new Thrift Shop Chair, Stephanie.
Hello! June is Uplift’s start of a new fiscal year. I know that you will miss our past “chairs” of the shop, Susan and Trish, and hopefully I can fill those shoes!
A little bit about me, other than the obvious “she is the short lady working in the much coveted linen department”…I grew up on Long Island, New York. In 1971, I came to Utah for college and graduated with a degree in nursing. I entered the Army Nurse Corps and to my surprise ended up staying for 28 years (5 active duty and 23 years in a medical reserve unit at Fort Douglas). Most of my nursing career was spent serving surgical patients. I worked in the Operating Room for a long time, between Holy Cross Hospital and the VA Medical Center. I ended the last 13 years at the VA as the General Surgery Nurse Coordinator, which was one of my favorite jobs. From the above statement you may sense that I like being around people but am also task oriented. Hopefully these attributes will be a positive thing as I work alongside you. I do have a sense of humor and enjoy a good laugh, whether it hits on sarcasm, irony or some small illogical event. Also, I like to think outside the box, so do not hesitate to talk to your team leader if you have a new idea, and we could bring it up at our monthly thrift shop meeting.
Thank you for all that you do for the organization-we could not be a success without everyone’s efforts.
Help Wanted!
Cutting Paper
A simple take-home task!
The Clothing Team goes through these little papers quickly and needs someone(s) to help cut out the squares. This is a simple take-home task that can be done while watching TV or listening to a podcast.
If you’re interested in helping out, reach out to me or Jodi.
Linens
Linens are piling up, quite literally!
The Linens Team needs extra help a few hours a week!
If you can lend a hand, contact me or Stephanie.
What’s Happening in the Back Corner?
You may have noticed that the back corner of the shop has been shuffled around a bit. We still have kids’ clothes but are limiting our inventory to baby items.
Also, lingerie and sleepwear are back! We eliminated this section of the store, but many customers asked to bring it back…and we’re in the business of making our customers happy!
If you have questions about where items are located, please ask!
Spring Cleaning
We’re getting organized!!!
Please help us stay tidy. Put items back in their proper bin, clean up trash, keep the sink area wiped down, etc.
Supplies are in labeled bins! More to come with the shelves to the right.
Volunteer hours forms, forks and spoons, pens, napkins, & color-code bracelets are all off the table and on the wall or bulletin board.
The left side of the kitchen is the CLEAN side. The right side is for DIRTY incoming donations and the only spot where chemicals should be used.
Closed for July 4th
We are CLOSED on Friday, July 4th. We will be OPEN on Saturday the 5th.
I hope you all enjoy the holiday and have a restful day off!
